Norway’s shattered coastline offers open heroic landscapes with heaps of relentless stone meeting the Atlantic. The fjords are deep and cold. Still, they are also the reason for the existence of an entire civilization. The name Norway, the way leading to the north, comes from the importance of a sea route that brought daring early settlers, hunters and fishermen to rich resources which are still there. To catch fish, seals, whales, they needed tools, and those tools became the finest symbols of the local craftsmanship. This focus on the fishing boat, especially on the usage of local wood as its material, also provided the local architecture with knowledge, as carpenters, in most cases, built boats more than houses.
